The LIMRA executive leadership team offers strategic vision for the organization as a whole, focused on serving the needs of our members through trusted research, education, and events. 

Many of our leaders are industry experts who started their careers in financial services prior to joining LIMRA. Their acute understanding of industry needs positions them to deliver unparalleled value to our member companies. 

Executive Leadership

David Levenson, DBA, FSA, CFA

President and Chief Executive Officer

David Levenson is president and CEO for LIMRA and LOMA. In this capacity, he is responsible for leading one of the world’s largest associations of life insurance and financial services companies, representing 700 member organizations across 70 countries.

Prior to joining LIMRA and LOMA, Levenson was a principal at Edward Jones and served on its management committee from 2015-2018. He was responsible for all products distributed through its network of 17,000 advisors in the U.S. and Canada. Prior to 2012, Levenson was president of wealth management at The Hartford Financial Services Group, responsible for the firm’s individual annuity, individual life, mutual fund and retirement plan businesses. He also served as president and CEO of Hartford Life, KK in Tokyo, where he was responsible for leading the largest annuity provider in Japan.

Levenson holds his Bachelor of Science from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, his Master of Business Administration from Columbia Business School and a doctorate in business administration from The School of International Corporate Strategy at Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo, Japan. 

Gina Birchall, LLIF, J.D.

Chief Operating Officer

Birchall joined LIMRA and LOMA as chief operating officer in 2017. In this role, she is responsible for the organization’s Research and Member Benefits, Professional Development, Talent Solutions, and Convening areas as well as Marketing & Communications, Information Technology, Legal, and Finance departments.

Prior to joining LIMRA and LOMA, Birchall held various positions at The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America. Most recently, she was Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, leading initiatives across the enterprise to advance its business goals.

Birchall holds a Bachelor of Arts from Mount Holyoke College and a Juris Doctor from the Western New England University School of Law, both in Massachusetts, as well as CLU and LLIF designations.

Bernadette Nadeau

Chief Operating Officer, International, LIMRA and LOMA

Bernadette Nadeau is the Chief Operating Officer, International. In this role, she leads a team that supports association members across Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Her responsibilities include member services, benefits administration, training content development and delivery, and member engagement.

Bernadette joined the organization in 2001, bringing a background in banking and commercial leasing. With over 20 years of progressive experience at LIMRA and LOMA, she has held various leadership roles that have contributed to her extensive expertise.

She holds an MBA from Western New England College and a BA from Central Connecticut State University.

Tina Beckwith, M.B.A.

Chief Marketing Officer

Leveraging her extensive brand marketing experience, Tina Beckwith will oversee LIMRA and LOMA’s marketing department, driving strategy and execution across thought leadership, product marketing, brand, communications, and digital marketing that will align with the overall enterprise growth of LIMRA and LOMA. She is responsible for driving member engagement with more than 1,200 LIMRA and LOMA member companies worldwide.

Prior to LIMRA and LOMA, Beckwith held leadership positions at MetLife and Aetna and was most recently the senior vice president of marketing and communications for Beacon Health Options, an Anthem company.

Beckwith has a bachelor’s degree in communications and marketing from Central Connecticut State and an M.B.A. from the University of Hartford.

John Carroll, MBA

Senior Vice President and Head of Insurance and Annuities – U.S. and Canada

John Carroll began his career at Merrill Lynch and over the course of 20 years held a variety of sales and marketing roles, culminating in Managing Director, Head of Distribution and Co-Head of Merrill Lynch Insurance Group. After Merrill Lynch, he joined Allianz Global Investors (AGI) where he was Chief Operating Officer for AGI Distributors (AGID), their U.S. Broker Dealer, and ultimately Head of U.S. Retail Distribution and served as the Chief Executive Officer of AGID. He joined LIMRA and LOMA from Epoch Investment Partners, an institutional asset management firm, where he was Head of Intermediary Client Relations. He holds a BA in economics and an MBA from Rutgers University.

Carie Crane, FLMI, ACS, AIRC, ARA

Vice President, Professional Development

As the Vice President of Professional Development for LIMRA and LOMA, Carie Crane is responsible for overseeing the planning, development, and support of the educational courses and programs to enhance the quality of human resources in and available to the insurance and financial services industry worldwide. In this role, she works with member advisory groups to determine educational needs and oversees the development of online and instructor-facilitated training courses and professional designation programs to meet those needs.

Crane joined LIMRA and LOMA in 1999 as an Examination Writer and has taken on a variety of roles related to the LIMRA and LOMA's education product development. She holds a Bachelor of Science in English from Troy University and a Master of Arts in professional writing from Kennesaw State University.

Janine Epright, M.B.A., CPA

Chief Financial Officer

In her role as chief financial officer, Janine Epright is responsible for delivering fiscal management expertise to the entirety of LIMRA and LOMA’s finances, including financial planning and forecasting, management of financial risks, record-keeping, and financial reporting. Joining LIMRA and LOMA in 2021, she also provides analysis of LIMRA and LOMA’s financial strengths and weaknesses while building strategic partnerships with stakeholders to expand LIMRA and LOMA’s role as an invaluable resource to members worldwide.

Most recently, Epright was chief financial officer for the non-profit Mohegan Tribe of Indians of Connecticut and Mohegan Holding Company, where she directed the development and management of financial statements, budgets, financial and cost forecasts, and regulatory filings, as well as multiple annual audits.

Epright has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Western New England University and an M.B.A. from the University of New Haven. She is a certified public accountant (CPA) in the state of Connecticut.

Bryan Hodgens, AIF

Senior Vice President, Head of Research

Bryan Hodgens is Senior Vice President and Head of Research for LIMRA and LOMA. In this capacity, he develops and executes the research strategy for both the distribution and retirement research programs, focused on providing insights and best practices to address the current and emerging business challenges facing LIMRA members.

Hodgens joined LIMRA in 2022 with more than 25 years of executive experience at companies such as AIG, Wells Fargo Advisors and Asset Growth Partners. Most recently, he was senior vice president and head of LPL Financials’ Retirement Plans and Financial Planning Group.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Emory University in Atlanta Georgia.

Michele LaBouff

Senior Vice President, Human Resources

Michele LaBouff leads the human resources (HR) department for LIMRA and LOMA. She develops HR strategies that support the company's business goals, which align with its core values, and that deliver on its employee value proposition.

In this role, LaBouff is also responsible for leading all aspects of the employee experience including engagement, recognition, development and recruitment, as well as compensation and benefits.

LaBouff, who joined the organization in 1995, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Sean F. O'Donnell, M.B.A., LLIF

Senior Vice President, Head of Membership, Workplace Benefits, and Applied Research Solutions

Sean O’Donnell is responsible for developing and implementing LIMRA and LOMA’s member engagement strategy in the U.S. and Canada. He leads a team dedicated to ensuring that members fully leverage the research, benefits, and commercial solutions available. In addition, he is responsible for leading the company’s consulting business, working to help companies apply research and industry expertise to develop strategies for growth.

O’Donnell brings more than 25 years of marketing, sales, research, and organizational and consumer-behavior experience to his current role. Prior to joining, he was a supervising project director and analyst for the PERT Group, a global research-based consultancy, working on product development and brand equity research for organizations such as Gillette, Clorox, S.C. Johnson, and Nestle.

O’Donnell received both his bachelor’s degree and his Master of Business Administration, with concentrations in finance and marketing, from the University of Hartford.

Kartik Sakthivel, Ph.D., MS-IT/MS-CS, MBA, PGC-IQ

Vice President & Chief Information Officer and Regional Chief Executive Officer – Asia West

As chief information officer for LIMRA and LOMA, Kartik Sakthivel is responsible for developing the information technology strategic direction for the enterprise. In this capacity, he directs and manages computing and information technology policies, programs and schedules for business and enterprise systems, and manages information services to meet LIMRA and LOMA’s corporate goals and objectives.

An industry thought leader, he champions the use of technology to improve the revenue, profitability, and efficiency of the organization. Joining LIMRA and LOMA in 2017, Sakthivel has broad industry experience, most recently as director of technology at Liberty Mutual Insurance.

He holds a doctorate in Computer and Information Sciences with a focus on AI and Information Quality from University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and a Master of Science in Computer Information Systems/Information Technology, as well as a Master of Business Administration from Southern New Hampshire University.

Kimberly Terranella

Vice President, Head of Industry Solutions Division

With more than 20 years’ industry experience, Kimberly Terranella joined LIMRA and LOMA in 2023 to lead its industry solutions division. In this role, she is responsible for setting direction, defining objectives, and establishing a long-term vision and strategy for all new and existing talent-related and industry-level solutions. This includes LIMRA’s Anti-Money Laundering training, Trustworthy Selling, selection and assessment tools, FraudShare, Customer Assurance Program, customer experience benchmarking, LIMRA Data Exchange Standards, and compensation surveys.

Terranella holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut.

Research Leadership

Philip Brown

Corporate Vice President Research Solutions

Phil Brown is responsible for LIMRA and LOMA’s commercial research products and offerings. This includes LIMRA and LOMA’s custom research services, the customer assurance program, as well as new product development in the areas of customer experience and applied data analytics. He is a staff representative on the Customer Insight Advisory Council and a frequent industry speaker.

Brown joined LIMRA and LOMA in 2014 with more than 25 years of experience in financial services, with leadership roles in market development, analytics, technology and finance at companies such as Citigroup (Travelers, Smith Barney and Citibank), MassMutual and Guardian Life Insurance.

He is a graduate of Boston University’s School of Management and an Executive Scholar with Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

Keith Golembiewski

Assistant Vice President and Director of Annuity Research

In 2024, Golembiewski became the director of LIMRA’s annuity research program. In this capacity, he leads the team responsible for LIMRA’s annuity benchmark sales studies, as well as all annuity trending and insights research. Prior to 2024, he was senior director of LIMRA’s strategic research program, leading the research efforts on key enterprise-wide initiatives, including the direct-to-consumer market, industry scenario planning, and a targeted program of hot topic insights for members.

Golembiewski has more than 25 years of experience in strategic research and competitive intelligence at leading insurance organizations including Prudential Financial, The Hartford, and the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI). He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Connecticut College.

Lai-Sahn Hackett, ARM, CPDM, ALMI, ACS

Corporate Vice President, Applied Research Solutions

Lai-Sahn leads a team of research consultants responsible for consulting with clients to design creative and valid research approaches that will uncover actionable insights into changing market dynamics and help clients maximize opportunities to meet their business goals. She manages a strategic program of custom and consortia research and thought leadership that addresses important industry issues.

Before her current position, Lai-Sahn directed LIMRA’s Insurance Markets research program of benchmark surveys and discovery research, with a focus on key consumer segments.

Prior to joining LIMRA and LOMA, Lai-Sahn was vice president of Market Research at Spring Consulting Group, an Alera Group Company, where she led research, product development, and process improvement engagements for carriers and large employers, and was a financial representative with Northwestern Mutual. Lai-Sahn holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Corporate Finance and Accounting from Bentley University and earned the Associate in Risk Management (ARM).

Patrick T. Leary, M.B.A., LLIF

Corporate Vice President Workplace Benefits Research

Patrick T. Leary, M.B.A., LLIF, is corporate vice president, workplace benefits research for LIMRA and LOMA. In this role, Pat leads a team of workplace benefits professionals responsible for conducting research on the products, markets, and distribution of a wide range of life, health, and related employee benefits.

Before assuming his current position, Pat directed LIMRA and LOMA’s distribution research program and, prior to that, was a member of LIMRA and LOMA’s group insurance research team.

Pat joined LIMRA and LOMA in 1989. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Hartwick College and his M.B.A. from the University of Connecticut. Pat also earned his LIMRA and LOMA Leadership Institute Fellow (LLIF) designation in 2012.

Marianne Purushotham, FSA, MAAA

Marianne Purushotham is responsible for LIMRA and LOMA’s data analysis and statistical modeling functions including applications of predictive analytics to life and health insurance industry problems. She also manages LIMRA and LOMA’s strategic research partnership with the Society of Actuaries which includes studies of industry experience related to various insurance product lines. 

Prior to her current position, Purushotham worked in both insurance company and actuarial consulting roles where her areas of specialization included pricing, valuation, financial reporting, assumption review, and experience analysis for life, annuity and health products.

Purushotham holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Middlebury College and a Master of Science in Applied Mathematics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute.

Alison Salka, Ph.D.

Principal Research Consultant

Alison Salka joined LIMRA in 2012 and led the member benefits and research division from April 2014 until April 2024. She was responsible for driving the strategy and direction of its global research program. As principal research consultant, she is focused on thought leadership designed to help companies better understand industry issues and trends. She is a frequent industry speaker and has testified before the Department of Labor. Before joining LIMRA, she worked at Prudential and MassMutual. She has a Master’s degree from the College of William and Mary and Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University.

Todd A. Silverhart, Ph.D., LLIF

Corporate Vice President Research Quality & Markets Research

Silverhart is responsible for directing select strategic research initiatives as well as implementing and managing processes to assure the quality of LIMRA and LOMA’s research program. Todd oversees the development of research agendas, the practices followed in conducting research, and the procedures for assuring the quality of research deliverables.

A frequent industry speaker and author, he also serves as staff representative for LIMRA and LOMA’s Customer Insight Advisory Council.

Having joined LIMRA and LOMA in 1988, Silverhart previously served in LIMRA and LOMA’s Assessment Solutions unit, where he conducted producer and field manager selection research, consultation, and product development. From 2000 to 2019 he managed various LIMRA and LOMA research functions including Technology in Marketing and Distribution, Markets, and Insurance Research.

Silverhart is a graduate of Middlebury College and received his Ph.D. in industrial and organizational psychology from Old Dominion University.

Karen R. Terry, FLMI

Assistant Vice President, Insurance Product Research

Karen Terry leads the Individual Product Research team, developing and implementing LIMRA's research program for individual life, disability long-term care and critical illness insurance products in the U.S. and Canada. Under her guidance, her team provides competitive intelligence on product design, customer demographics, industry sales trends and forecasts for the North American individual insurance markets. With over 25 years of insurance product and consumer research experience, Karen is a leading industry expert on industry performance measures to LIMRA staff, member companies, and the media.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in marketing from the University of Maryland.
