Jon Pike

Utah Insurance Commissioner

Jon Pike has served as Utah Insurance Commissioner since January 5, 2021. Pike worked in several positions with Intermountain Healthcare from 1990 through 2020, including 26 years as the southwest Utah operations director for SelectHealth, the health insurance division of Intermountain.

In 2007, Pike was elected to the St. George City Council and in 2013 he was elected mayor of St. George, where he served until January of 2021. Pike currently serves on the boards of Encircle St. George, the Southwest Utah Symphony and Orchestra, the Southern Utah Bicycle Alliance and as a member of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.

Pike received a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Utah and an MBA from Westminster College. Pike loves singing, playing the piano, organ, and guitar, as well as water and snow skiing, motorcycling and walking or biking. He and his wife Kristy have five children and six grandchildren.

Eric Steigerwalt has served as the president and chief executive officer of Brighthouse Financial since the company’s launch in 2016. Prior to joining Brighthouse Financial, Steigerwalt held multiple leadership roles at MetLife, Inc. (MetLife) over the course of 18 years, most recently serving as executive vice president of MetLife’s U.S. Retail business from 2012 to 2016. Steigerwalt also served as MetLife’s interim chief financial officer from 2011 to 2012, chief financial officer for MetLife’s U.S. businesses from 2009 to 2011 and MetLife’s treasurer from 2007 to 2009. Steigerwalt began his tenure at MetLife in 1998, managing many of the operational aspects of MetLife’s demutualization and IPO, and went on to become the company’s first head of investor relations.

Prior to joining MetLife, Steigerwalt worked in finance at Equitable Companies and at Fossett Corporation, where he was a derivatives trader. He is the chairman of the Brighthouse Financial Foundation and the chairman of Brighthouse Scholar Connections, Inc. He also serves on the board of directors for the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI) and as chair of the ACLI PAC. In addition, he serves on the board of directors for the Wells Fargo Championship’s Champions for Education foundation. Steigerwalt graduated from Drew University with a bachelor’s degree in economics.

4-Time Olympian, TEDx Speaker, and American Record Holder

Chaunte Lowe doesn’t strive to just break the mold; she vaults over it leaving it far behind her in the dust. This four-time Olympian’s impressive rise started while she was just a sophomore at Georgia Tech when she made her first Olympic appearance. Her ambitions on the field and in the classroom showed an unparalleled drive even among the Institute’s top student-athletes. Chaunte is a world champion and has broken the American Record three times and is the current American record holder in indoor and outdoor high jump. She’s competed in four Olympic Games and aspired to add a fifth. In addition to her athleticism, she has used her personal experiences to raise awareness of breast cancer research, early detection, and eradication. In 2019, she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. Despite the diagnosis, she continued to train through surgeries and chemotherapy to stay competitive for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. With the games postponed, she’s maintained her training determined to continue to use her voice to bring awareness to breast cancer. “The best gift I can give with my life is helping others find beauty in their own lives,” she says.

Dawn Behnke serves as executive vice president of Consumer Markets at Pacific Life. In this role, she is responsible for the growth and profitability of the division, as well as the continued expansion efforts in core and new markets.

Behnke joined Pacific Life as a program manager in 2001, overseeing the new business improvement program and the merger of the two-primary go-to-market distribution channels. In 2003, she was promoted to director and then in 2004, was promoted to assistant vice president, Sales and Marketing Operations. She launched the first field productivity program across 22 regional offices and facilitated efficiency initiatives across the Life Insurance Division’s distribution channels. In 2006, Behnke was promoted to vice president, then to senior vice president in 2010 where she was responsible for the Life Insurance Division’s product, marketing, underwriting, information technology, and strategic planning functions. In 2017, Behnke was promoted to executive vice president. She earned a B.S. from Penn State and an M.B.A. from Lehigh University.

John Bultema is president and chief executive officer of Columbus Life Insurance Company and The Lafayette Life Insurance Company. Both companies are members of Western & Southern Financial Group based in Cincinnati. Bultema joined Western & Southern Financial Group in 2017 as the senior vice president of Institutional Markets with responsibility for building institutional relationships in the pension risk transfer, bank-owned life insurance and other markets. He has been developing solution suites that deliver group retirement and personal protection products to small businesses. This work continues in his roles with Lafayette Life and Columbus Life and will provide further opportunities to leverage the highly regarded retirement services capabilities of those companies. He joined Western & Southern following a 22-year career at Fifth Third Bank and Old Kent Bank, where he held a variety of leadership positions, including region president and chief executive officer – Central Florida; region president – Western Michigan; executive vice president – Business Banking Group; and executive vice president – Treasury Management.

His nonprofit activities include serving on the board of Best Point, the University of Cincinnati Lindner School of Business Advisory Board, the Grand Valley State University Foundation, the Grand Valley State University Siedman School of Business advisory board and a member of the Cincinnati Chapter of Young Presidents Organization (YPO). Prior to moving to Cincinnati, he was very active in a number of other nonprofits, including United Way, YMCA, Central Florida Partnership (including the founding chairman of the Transportation task force) and Ronald McDonald House. Bultema holds a bachelor’s degree from Grand Valley State University and an MBA from Western Michigan University. He and his wife, Tiffany, have two children and reside in Indian Hill, Ohio.

Rob Schaffer is the vice president of Product Solutions for Prudential’s Individual Life Insurance business. In this role, Rob is responsible for Individual Life Insurance’s comprehensive product portfolio that balances the needs of customers and distribution partners while delivering smart growth and enduring financials. Prior to joining Prudential, Rob was the general manager of USAA’s life insurance line, responsible for products and experience designed to support USAA members’ core life insurance needs. Before this, Rob was the General Manager of USAA’s Phoenix campus with responsibility for more than 4,000 employees and external community relations, including USAA’s military affairs and government relations for the State of Arizona. Prior USAA roles included leading Life Operations, where Rob was accountable for product strategy, development and management of USAA’s annuity products. Rob also spent time with CUNA Mutual Group and Thrivent, heading up Customer Operations, Product Management and Research functions, respectively.

Rob earned his Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and his Master of Science degree in Operations Research from the Naval Postgraduate School. Rob proudly served 10 years in the United States Marine Corps and actively volunteers and supports various organizations serving veterans. In addition, Rob is a member of Prudential’s business resource group, VETNET.

John Currier manages F&G’s Retail business unit as the President, Retail Markets, a position he was named to in February 2021. He is responsible for business unit profit and loss, and he oversees sales, operations, marketing, new business profitability and in-force management for all of the company’s retail sales of life and annuity products. Mr. Currier joined F&G in May 2015 as Deputy Chief Actuary and was named Chief Actuary in October 2016. Mr. Currier has over 30 years of life and annuity industry experience.  He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and graduate of Butler University.

Steve Scanlon is Head of Individual Retirement at Equitable and a member of Equitable’s Operating Committee. In this role, he is responsible for driving strategy of the Individual Retirement business across distribution, product, inforce portfolio, M&A, capital, and strategic relationships. Prior to his current position, Steve was Head of Group Retirement at Equitable, responsible for strategy, implementation and financial results for the defined contribution business, supporting the education, government and corporate markets. His key accomplishments include pioneering new ways to reach and support educators amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, enhancing Equitable Financial’s portfolio and forging innovative partnerships.

Prior to joining Equitable, Steve was the co-founder of GuardVest, a fintech startup. He also held several leadership roles with AllianceBernstein, serving as Managing Director of Bernstein Global Wealth Management, Head of Global Sales AB Defined Contribution, and Senior Vice President and Head of AB Insurance Subadvisory Services after starting his career at Wood Logan. Steve graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia and currently resides in Kansas City, MO with his three children.

Bryan Hodgens is Senior Vice President and Head of Research for LIMRA and LOMA. In this capacity, he develops and executes the research strategy for both the distribution and retirement research programs, focused on providing insights and best practices to address the current and emerging business challenges facing LIMRA members.

Hodgens joined LIMRA in 2022 with more than 25 years of executive experience at companies such as AIG, Wells Fargo Advisors and Asset Growth Partners. Most recently, he was senior vice president and head of LPL Financials’ Retirement Plans and Financial Planning Group.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Emory University in Atlanta Georgia.

Cancellation Policy:

In the event that a scheduled meeting or event is cancelled by LIMRA and LOMA for any reason, LIMRA and LOMA shall refund any conference registration fees that have been paid by the registrant. Under no circumstances, however, shall LIMRA and LOMA be liable to the registrant for any other expenses including, but not limited to, airfare and hotel expenses incurred by the registrant. Cancellations received from April 3 to April 17, 2023 will be refunded, less a $375 processing and administrative fee. No refunds will be issued after April 17, 2023.
